Simple Protein Ideas When You're Not Hungry on a GLP-1

One of the strangest parts of a GLP-1 is looking into a full fridge and wanting none of it. The advice to "eat more protein" is right, but it lands badly when even a sandwich feels like a project. So here is the version that actually works when your appetite has gone quiet.

Little and often beats one big plate

Trying to get all your protein into one dinner rarely works when you fill up after a few bites. Spreading it across three or four small occasions is much gentler and adds up to more overall.

Aim for a portion of protein at each eating occasion, however small the occasion is.

Keep these in the house

Decision-making is the hardest part on a low-appetite day. Having six reliable things in the fridge removes it.

  • Greek yoghurt or skyr, plain, with berries or honey.
  • Boiled eggs, made in a batch on Sunday.
  • Cottage cheese or a soft cheese you actually like.
  • Pre-cooked chicken, smoked salmon, tinned tuna or beans.
  • A milk or soy drink to sip when eating feels impossible.
  • One protein powder you tolerate, for the days nothing else works.

When food feels heavy, drink it

Liquids and soft textures often go down when solids will not. A milk-based smoothie with yoghurt and fruit, a lentil soup blended smooth, a milky coffee with an extra shot of milk — these all count.

This is not a shortcut or cheating. On a day where the alternative is nothing, a shake is the better meal.

Front-load the day

Many women find appetite is best in the morning and worst by evening. If that is you, put your biggest protein serving at breakfast rather than saving it for a dinner you will not want.

Eggs, yoghurt, or last night's chicken on toast at 8am is a perfectly good breakfast.

Do not aim for perfect

Some days you will manage very little. That is fine, as long as it is not every day. Look at the week, not the meal.

If you are consistently unable to eat, losing weight very rapidly, or feeling faint and weak, that is worth raising with your doctor or a dietitian rather than pushing through.
